Railway Freight Transportation Up by 0.7% in the 1st Quarter 2019

According to RZD data, freight transportation by rail in January-March 2019 reached 318.7 million tons of freight (↑ 0.7% as compared to 2018). In the reporting period, a transportation of containers increased by 14.7% up to 1.15 million TEU which is 11.66 million tons (↑ 13.7%) by weight.

From which special type containers (of special type) – 144.91 thousand TEU, including:
tank containers – 122.61 thousand TEU ↑15%;
refrigerated containers – 15.45 thousand TEU ↑2.6%;
thermal containers – 6.85 thousand TEU ↑47.4%.

Freight turnover in January-March 2019 amounted to 651.8 billion tariff ton-kilometers, ↑2.4%.
Freight turnover including empty wagon runs increased by 2.5% and reached 832.3 billion ton-km.

According to expert opinion, the freight transportation by rail in 2019 will grow no more than by 1% as compared to 2018, with increase of freight turnover by 2.5%.
